There is so much to learn on how to operate a kiln, the friend who gave it to me used to use it making porcelain heads for dolls, and used it for the last time a few weeks ago so it’s working well after 25 years. My daughter Liz is going to share it with me. She is on her second year of pottery evening classes . here it is . Quite big 2 foot high and about 2 foot wide. With two shelves so quite a lot can be fired in it.
I must read up about it , I have a lot of bisque ware I can paint up and glaze. Ready for firing. So another craft to try and master. Xx
Wow.....that’s brilliant Linda. Am so looking forward to seeing what you make. Love it. x
Really fascinating!
Love to see what you make, Linda!
Excited to see the results.x
It all sounds great and I like that you are going to finish the bisque from before. I remember a lot of the projects you start and I like when I see you go back and finish them later. How long do you think it will take to glaze stuff in the kiln
No I haven’t a pottery wheel but when I went to the pottery lessons we were doing hand built pottery like you And having it fired then painting it and glazed ready for firing again.. we could also buy bisque ware . It is very exciting I am going to buy some paint and glaze and finish the bisque ware I have in a big box in the cabin.
I had a ceramic shop just a few doors down from me and they poured and fired them for me , the moulds were polystyrene they separated into 2 halves to remove the item once the slip had set , do you have a potters wheel linda if your going to be doing pottery , I did evening classes on pottery but didn’t progress pass the hand builds the wheel needed another term of classes at least . It’s all very exciting
Well liz you know more about it than I do, I wasn’t going to use moulds, I was just going to make the pottery . And as I have a lot of bisque ware to be painted and glazed I was going to fire that too. What type of moulds did you pour and make.?
How great is that Linda , I have Always had my bisque fired for me and couldn’t justify having a kiln . Are you going to pour your own moulds now too . the bisque is poured , then cleaned up when set , then fired and refired if glazed
enjoy the new experience
I want to read up and see if I can fuse glass in it, I have lots of glass too. 🤔👏
