Hi there, as most of you should know some of us have badges assigned to our names, and I thought I'd go through what those badges were for so you so anyone who wants extra ones can see what they need to do to get them and so you would understand what badges on someone else's name stood for.
The first badge I think I gave out was 'An Original' I gave it only to members that moved here from our original group. Obviously this badge will not be given out in future unless a member of our original group find us ( we lost a few in our moves).
"1 Year" badge is for people that helped keep this site going throughout the first year. In order to get the badge you had to post and join in with the site to keep it active. This site can not be given out in the future although there will be a second year badge that will be open to anyone who is contributing between the end of the first year and the end of the second year (February 2023)
"Site Owner" At the moment this is just me, since I am the site owner, I have paid for the space and all that it entails myself for three years, I built the site and I maintain it. After the three years I may look at other ways of paying for it depending on my financial situation. If at any point other people pay towards the site they will also get a badge although it might be slightly different depending upon their role and the percentage of the site they covered.
"Inspirational" This is awarded to all members who inspire others by posting their makes, let us know about new crafts, start challenges and just generally get involved in the site. This badge will continue to be awarded to new members who join in and stay involved past the first few weeks of joining.
"New Friend" This badge is awarded to new members, it lets other members know they are new and may need help and guidance around the site. The badge will be removed after they have posted regularly and consistently and have shown they are no longer new. All new members can get this badge, and it will also show up on profiles who have been dormant and not got involved.
"42" This badge was awarded as a bit of fun. I am a huge Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) fan, and so without explaining I told members if they were to log in on a certain day, I didn't tell them it was 'towel day' http://www.towelday.org/ a day when Douglas Adams fans carry a towel, (have to read the book to understand that one) and tell me what colour towel they used that day, I would award a badge. I'm pretty sure most of the site members didn't know what was going on but many did log in and tell me their towel colour and so they got the badge. 42 because it is the answer to everything... again, read the book. This badge will not be repeated but I may do a similar one keep a look out.
"Blogger" this badge is given to anyone who writes a blog entry, and since anyone can write a blog entry and if approved can get the badge, what are you waiting for? Write a blog entry on something you know about, to do with crafting of course, and if approved and it gets posted you get the badge.
"Challenger" This badge is given to anyone who has put a challenge out there on our challenge group. Anyone can put a challenge out there, again it has to be something to do with crafting. Challenges are not sent through the mail, they just have a set of rules about what you need to make and any limitations on craft style, and a date that you have to be finished. For instance make a Christmas card, any craft, by Dec 5th or make a toy from yarn by Dec 25th. If you want to offer a prize you may but you don't need to.
There are three new Christmas badges awarded for Christmas 2022. You can only get one badge for each item you post. So if you make a gingerbread house, you will get the Christmas Cheer badge because it is a food item, you will not get the holiday spirit badge as well although technically it could be argued it's also a decoration.
"Holiday Spirit" Awarded to anyone that crafts something for the holidays and posts it in the Holiday Group, you can and should also post it on the forums, but this badge is awarded to people who post something they have made that is unique, so if other people like what you have made and copy it they will not get the badge for that they will have to post their own thing. It can be something they made on a previous year. This is not awarded for food or decorations. By decorations I mean outdoor and indoor lights, trees, inflatables etc. If you make a table centrepiece or a table runner, you will get the badge (if you're the first)
"Christmas Cheer" Awarded to anyone that bakes a Christmas food item and posts it in the Holiday Group again you should also post it on the forums, so this is for cookies and cakes etc that are for the holidays. You will get the badge if your item is unique, including if two or more people make cookies but they are very different from each others, if you use someone else's recipe and decoration style you will not get the badge for that.
"Star Bright" Awarded to all site members who post their Christmas Decorations, Outdoor and indoor lights or trees all count. Craft makes as covered in the Holiday Spirit or Christmas Cheer badges do not count. Unlike the other badges you do need to post pictures from this years decorations, however it doesn't matter if it's a huge outdoor display or a small 1' high Christmas tree.
If you feel you should have a badge that you don't have please let me know, I'm sure some got past me.
I’ve just finished a throw in Christmas colours for the back of my sofa. Would that count?
Lots to take in there sarah , I will just trust you to keep me right lol
