Hi Ladies I want to try something I have'nt tried before in crochet and that is changing colors to form a pattern in rows. The pattern is here (you do have to download it to see it). I do hope I'm not doing the wrong thing by sharing the link to the pattern If I am please tell me.
it's here
What I want to know is when it says
Work Chart, noting each square of chart is equal to 1 sc and reading RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right. Carry color not in use across top of entire previous row and work sts around it. This will ensure even gauge as all sts will be worked around an extra strand of yarn held across top of previous row. Carry both colors up side of work. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch fro
Should I be writing down when I'm on a WS or RS, I'm gathering the first row is the RS?? and I read the chart according to what they say. Also
do I just hold the previous color yarn with me and stich over it on the back when it says carry the yarn?
Sorry for all the stupid questions I've been wanting to try this and I love dishcloths and foliage so it's perfect for me.
Thanks for your help xx
Swa your final potholder, Lyndsey!
It is smashing!
Thank you very much Sarah 😘. I've found a pattern that I'm going to try first for a Christmas potholder that has a bit less color changes..so baby steps I think.
I will post a pic when I make it
They aren’t stupid questions at all I used to be confused over which was right and wrong. But you don’t need to write it down if you are working on a pattern with the traditional chain stitch foundation chain the first row is the right side and the little tail you get at the beginning of the chain row will always be on the bottom left. I don’t weave that tail in until I’ve finished because it is so handy for keeping track of the right side If you are using two colors you can hold the color you are not using and sort of run it behind along level with your stitches and just crochet right over it. It saves having loads of ends to sew in later. However if there is a lot of space between where you last finished with that color and where you will pick it up again it can be wasteful and so you might want to just run it along a few stitches and cut the yarn and if you prefer there really is nothing wrong with just cutting the yarn and weaving all the tails in at the end other than it’s a bit boring to do. A good tip for changing color is to change color during the previous stitch. For instance if you made a single crochet and then you are supposed to change color next stitch, on that single crochet start it as normal with the old color..insert hook into stitch… pull up a loop (old color) … two loops on your hook… now use the new color to yarn over and finish the stitch. You will find it a much neater colour change
