I hate sewng with minky it is so slippy and minky fur is the worst because it makes so much mess but its very soft so I made Alia a fur blanket for her Barbie doll bed. Well Aurin found the blanket and loved how soft it was, every time he was here he would ask for ’fluffy’ and he would carry it around instead of wanting his usual blanket and so eventually Alia gave it to him. So I bought some fabric to make some spares for him and to replace the Barbie blanket 2 yards of cream and 2 of pink and some fabric bits I had left over made two blankets 1 scarf 2 pillows, 1 Barbie blanket and a big stack of ‘fluffies’.

I have seen (and felt) cushion covers in this type of fabric - I never realised it might be a bit of a challenge to sew!! Thanks for the info ! Great work all round!
Looks lovely. So snuggly. x
It is soft looking so worth it, I have used minky fleece fabric , not seen this fabric though
Looks lovely and cuddly Sarah 😍
That is so informative you are a star , many thanks for introducing me to something new. Xx
First off if you have a walking foot for your machine use that. They are a good investment and make sewing with minky a lot easier because the feed dogs walk the fabric through from the bottom and then the walking foot feeds through the top fabric. Minky is really slippy and it stretches
because it stretches and slips cut it slightly bigger than you need it and use half inch seams then cut the excess off your seam once sewn so your seams aren’t bulky. Use a knit or stretch needle in your machine and use lots of pins to hold your project together but use long pins with a bright colored end to them because you don’t want to leave a pin in a child’s blanket or toy and they can get lost in the pile of the fur.
Sew slowly and use your hand to guide the fabric through. Try to avoid sewing minky to minky your first time. Two minkys are a nightmare, that’s what I used for both Alia and Aurins car seat covers/blankets they looked lovely but the two fabric just kept slipping against each other. If you can pair it with cotton instead but prewash the cotton because cotton shrinks and minky doesn’t Sew with the cotton on top if you pair with cotton.
the minute you cut the minky use a vacuum with the crevice tool to vacuum along the cut it only sheds badly in one direction but vacuuming will save you a lot of mess. Don’t do what I did and sew minky while the ceiling fan is on🤣. A cupboard ten feet away was covered in fur I had to dust the room with a damp cloth😂
I know this sounds like a lot but I hope I haven’t dissuaded you because my grandchildren love anything they have made with minky and if you follow those steps it’s not too bad. Good luck I look forward to seeing what you make. X
Thanks Sarah I have looked it up and found it on Amazon, you Say it is messy , but I would like to make a soft toy with it have you any tips to give me about sewing on a machine with it.?
Thank you Linda. In the UK there is a cleaning company called minky and they aggressively protect their name and so in the uk the fabric is known as plush fabric often cuddle plush or microfiber plush. It is wonderfully soft.
I love the look of all your sewing. What is the uk’s equivalent to minky fur. I have never seen it. Xx
