I had a day out in Canterbury , and bought a Christmas bauble kit, and started making these bauble, they have wooden 3 D inserts that you make up and put in side. The wooden inserts can be painted or glittered what ever you want to do even the outside bauble can be painted.
I made up the little village to show you.
