This inspired me to look on Ye Olde Youtube - and I found videos by Creative Cat , and she has a round-up of all her home-made recipes for things like this - and chalk paint, Mod podge, glass paint and stuff too.
Enjoying all this chat about texture, how about adding antique inks to create the aged look , I have no craft shops here so need to buy from Amazon , but they are great
We have Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Joann Fabric the last one sells fabric and craft things but we used to have another store called AC Moore which was better for me because they had a lot more art materials and a lot of yarn but they went out of business due to COVID. I do feel bad complaining when we still have so many craft stores but still we all have our favorites. That was the store that had all the craft mediums in
I was lucky enough to have a craft store near me that sold lots of drawing and art stuff gel mediums and all kinds of stuff, so I would buy some when I went in and give them a go see what did what, they are a lot of fun to use. if you do a search on Amazon for craft texture paste you will see lots of different kinds and you will get some ideas of things to mix in your homemade one. I have thought about adding tea to give that aged colour.
EDIT: actually I probably have mica powder the colour of tea, that might work
I will have a look its nice looking for new ideas you tube has been handy for that.we only have a hobby craft i dont find it that amazing in there i use amazon and ebay mostly.
That sounds great sarah it should dry clear i dont really no why you need to add the paint.if i had known about the paste i could have used that on the wedding album to give texture would have saved alot of time.
Oh ok, I didn't think about you painting over the top, no idea why since that's what I do.😶 I do wish I could make some clear though, I guess if you missed out the paint it might work, the glue would dry clear. I still have a book box that you sent me, that I want to do something with but I don't know exactly how I want to use it so I always end up putting it away. I know I want to make it look like a fairytale book, like a big old fashioned one full of fairytales and nursery rhymes. I've been toying with the idea of covering it with a patchwork of fabrics and varnishing over the top but some texture would be nice like those old books with the hard cover that always had little scrolls and such.
Nice I like using texture pastes too, you can always add little beads or glitter. It looks like yours came out clear, how did that happen with white paint in it?

Will get round to it !
