Hey art friends. I'm a woodworker who's about to begin production line style production of a small picnic table I designed to be a chicken feeder. I call it the chicknic table. It's crazy cute and is gonna sell pretty well I'm thinking. My mom told me there are really nice stencils out there now that will let us (fairly non artistic people) create some really nice designs on my pieces like small flowers or whatever. She said using the type of stencil she saw included making the image in stages according to how many different colors are in the image.
I'm looking for fairly small stencils as the areas on my piece we'll be adding some flair to measure 1-1/4 in (30mm) tall and anywhere between 3-17 in (75-400) long. It'd be nice to find a stencil that was a long column of maybe flowers on a vine that was 3/4 in (18mm) tall.
I haven't started searching for stencils yet because I thought I'd start with the people who would know, folks on craft forums.
So question 1...any suggestion as to where I should look to find stencils like I'm describing. I'm not even sure what they're called so knowing that would help in my future searches.
Question 2...Why haven't I found any really large forums by doing a google search. I would think 'arts and crafts forums' search would have brought up some really active boards. Instead I've found a mish mash of good boards but not nearly as robust and active as I had imagined. Any suggestions for other active arts and crafts forums?
I'm all ears! Thanks everybody.
Hi!
I have stencils I could send you if you were willing to give me your address?
I don’t think I shall be using them any more.
You could contact me through Members Chat ( the cerise rectangle bottom right.)
Many years ago I bought some lovely stencils from a specialised stencil store n England 'The Stencil Library' in Stocksfield England, they were really helpful to me even though I was living in the US by then. Lots of places sell stencils in the US but I have not found anywhere with the sheer amount that the Stencil Library have, in the US, you will find just in craft stores, Michaels, Hobby Lobby etc. and it's pot luck what you will find. You might want to search for 'border' stencils as the title suggests they are designed to go around the border of something so would be narrow.
As for where all the crafters hang out, we wish we knew. We are always looking for new people to join us but we rarely find them. On the flip side of that I have found specialised groups that just quilt or watercolor or make jewelry but no groups like ours for people that like crafting as a whole, if you find any, send them our way we would be glad to have them, plus men, do men not craft?
