In may in the orchard we have 1 eating apple (Falstaff ) 1cooking apple (Arthur turner) and two crab apples (John Donnie) (red sentinel). All are in bloom now the crab apples help fertilise the other two apples. The quince is about to burst in to blossom another week should see that in bloom .
I hope we get some sun this week that will bring out the bees and hover flies to do the pollinating.
The hostas have pushed their heads up around the pond and will give some shade to the fish the middle of may is when the gold fish start chasing each other , so hopefully we will have some babies again this year.
Well that’s all until the end of may.
Yes - rushed to look out the back window to see ours, but not a hint of a blossom yet. Still, our two apple trees tend to produce nicely, but our pear only gave one, once, and our cherry, never. Nor has the plum. We got a set of five aeons ago. We thought judicious pruning might encourage them, but the people we got - well, there was nothing judicious about what they did. We might Google it and have a go ourselves if it’s not too late.
We’ve had a nice crop of rhubarb though. Just frolicked up what with the rain and the weather. As did the weeds. Boo 😒….
Beautiful linda , our trees are not blooming yet your garden is lovely
Yes our hosta’s stay till the end of summer and bloom with blue flowers they are next to the pond so they can get damp conditions. Our twin seat is there, where we often have tea breaks. The blue aqua liga and the pink weiglia , and saxifraga are all in bloom on the rockery, and listening to the water fall it’s peaceful.
Thanks for your interest.
Do your hostas last the whole summer? Ours look great right now but come the summer they can't stand the heat and die, they aren't in the sun even, it just gets too hot for them, such a shame. It would be lovely if you didn't have to cover the pool and be able to see right in but with cats and birds that will try to get the fish and its not safe for young children so they have to be covered, it still looks lovely and peaceful there, do you have a bench nearby so you can sit and be peaceful?
