I managed to get this book second hand , it’s by carolyn Pearce and I have coveted it for ages
due to the cost however I resisted buying it , because I would say I Usually but in honesty it’s really Always deviate away from pattern instructions , so when I saw it on world of books list of used books I treated myself . It is in perfect unused condition
My question now is does anyone else have this book as we could arrange another Sew Along
it will be quite a lengthy project , please look this book up if you are interested
I started the bag this weekend and began with the rose cottage pocket , I have not used the fabric suggested as I really want to work from my stash to reduce my fabric pile . I drew the rose vine on using fabric pen , it’s not traced so won’t be identical and I have embroidered the flowers using 2 strands of embroidery floss . The roof is again my own interpretation using embroidery, it’s very time consuming but I am loving it . will post WIP post tomorrow. have you started yet linda ?
Looking forward to following the progress of this project. x
I think it will probably be the craft along thread linda , good luck I look forward to seeing your ideas come to light
Bag patterns tend to be complicated looking especially if they have tried to explain in full. My own bag patterns are about 30 pages long 😕 but if you take them step by step you realise that most of it is just trying to give as full an explanation as possible. I’m interested to know if you embroider the panels first or make the bag and embroider the finished bag?
Yes, in the same way as yo I thought to cut out the panels for the bag, ( my own bag pattern which is simpler ) then work on each panel saying which one I shall do and what my idea was, the pocket panel of the appliquéd girl and the embroidery she suggests in the book Looks to be my first one, Put that aside when done, after all panels and pockets are embroidered and worked on, then I would construct it sewing with machine the same as you would putting an ordinary bag together. I like the folded flowers she does and the idea of sewing on buttons with the embroidery are lovely ideas . The thimble holder , was a lovely idea. I would like to ask Sarah where we carry on this conversation would it be the craft along thread? And post finished panel as WIP in the same thread. What is your aproach to this project.🤔
Read through the book and it does look very detailed my brain was spinning , I think the first step is to cut out the bag and lining linda , can’t remember if you then work panel by panel or assemble the bag , how are you approaching it
I have put another reply in the discussion thread about this book, I have looked through this book and very excited with ideas and want to start, but I will cut out my own bag panels as I have simpler bag patterns . But will follow the ideas the book gives, for embroidery and appliqué, and discuss with you what you will do liz , and what I will do. What are your ideas now you have looked through the book.
That looks great, I don't have the embroidery ability to complete it though and it's $58 in the US. You were lucky to find a cheaper one Liz. The reviews said the instructions were easy to understand so I'm sure you'll be able to complete it, but if you do get stuck I'd be glad to help with advice on the bag making part.
That’s fantastic linda , it will be good to help each other , I think I will read through the book over the weekend then we can discuss it , anyone else feel like joining us ?
If a few of us do it we could help each other MT
I have this book may I go along with you . I await your ideas .
Now, that looks a bit ambitious for me - but I’d love to see how it pans out! 😃
